ABWAK Grants Available
ABWAK is able to grant small amounts of funds to its members to assist directly in the furtherance of the association's objectives in husbandry, welfare, conservation and education. Please complete the grants form.
Applications are welcome from professional and associate members who meet any of the following criteria (Zoo keepers in British or Irish Zoos are particularly encouraged to apply):
- Any captive-based husbandry or enrichment project designed to increase knowledge of awareness of factors relevant to the management of captive exotics; particularly Red Data Book/CITES listed taxa.
- Projects that support improvements in husbandry, husbandry techniques and welfare of animals.
There will be two special small grants available to assist professional members of ABWAK to attend the International Congress of Zookeeping in 2009 in Seattle, USA. Applicants must be presenting a talk or poster at the conference and be working in a British or Irish Zoo. Applications are welcome from December 2008.
Grants are not available to fund study tours unless there is strong evidence that any work carried out during the study period enhances and improves the captive husbandry of animals.
Grants are made at the discretion of the Association's general council.
Acceptance of an ABWAK grant implies acceptance of any conditions that ABWAK Council may impose in connection with said grant. An automatic condition is that the successful applicant must agree to provide written details of the sponsored topic on completion of the project. If the study is ongoing, regular reports would be expected. Such information may be published by ABWAK in consultation with the author. ABWAK must be acknowledged in any publications arising from the project for which the grant was provided. The successful application will commit to providing a summary of the project in the ABWAK publication Ratel, and also if invited, commit to providing a poster or talk at an ABWAK event.
Applications should be made in writing to the address below. Grant applications may be submitted throughout the year but must be at least three months prior to the beginning of the project/conference attendance, to allow appropriate assessment of the application.
